To Contact Us Happening ... in the Local Church
|
Time to speak up Every day, it seems we see or learn of instances where the name or image of God is being removed from coins, from the Pledge of Allegiance, from music programs, etc. In many cases, sports programs no longer can be opened with a prayer. Young people are led to believe that God no longer exists and that it is not cool to believe in God. God is often ridiculed on TV programs or in the movies. Convocation speakers are warned not to speak about God or, in some cases when they do, their microphones are cut off. Prayers are forbidden in schools. The list goes on and on. Who are the people and organizations causing this? Why do they seem to hate God and what do they hope to gain? There may be many reasons. Some are former Christians who are angry with the “rules” of Christianity and want to do anything they want to do. Some seek a form of power to advance their own egos by bringing down the authority of the Church. Some are debased in their sins and seek others to join them in their misery. Above and beyond these reasons, I believe the devil is the one behind all their plans. He is so clever that he leads them to believe that they will be like God. After all, that is why he was knocked out of heaven by Michael the Archangel. Remember how he tricked Adam and Eve into believing that if they ate the forbidden fruit, they would become as smart as God? Now why is it that they are winning in getting God removed from everything? It is because they are working hard at it every day, and we Christians are not. We may wring our hands and say, “Isn’t this awful?” as we lose another place where God was revered. Then we accept it. We say, “What can we do?” Then we do nothing. We have parishes and various Christian organizations that should be mobilized to fight back. We can pressure Congress, the courts, city and state governments, school boards, colleges and universities that are passing these laws and rulings to remove God. We need to make our voices heard, loud and clear. Do you agree? OK, what are you going to do about it? Attend meetings and speak up. Write letters to the editors. Call your U.S. senators and representatives. Call in to radio or TV talk shows with your personal protest. Get your friends and acquaintances to join you. Soon, there could be a national effort of Americans to turn this around.
Come on, let’s do it! |
