These stories appeared in The Catholic Moment and its
predecessor, the Lafayette edition of Our Sunday Visitor: |
• 50 years ago, May 4, 1958: About 40 girls are volunteering at
Central Catholic High School in Lafayette to help prepare a temporary
chapel for the students to attend daily Mass. Girls in the service
organization have made the curtains hanging behind the altar; scrubbed
floors; painted walls; wash and iron the church linens; prepare the
altar for Mass, and help raise funds for needed materials. |
• 25 years ago, May 1, 1983: Bishop George A. Fulcher will ordain
four deacons to the diocesan priesthood on May 7 at St. Mary Cathedral,
Lafayette. They are Robert Bernotas, Philip Mahalic, Theodore Rothrock
and Peter Vanderkolk. |
• 10 years ago, May 3, 1998: St. John the Evangelist Church,
Hartford City, celebrates its 100th anniversary with a Mass and the
dedication of a monument to the unborn. The monument was donated by the
Monsignor Emil Schweier Council of the Knights of Columbus. |
• Five years ago, May 4, 2003: Our Lady of Grace Parish,
Noblesville, celebrates the dedication of its bell tower. Knights of
Columbus Council 9706 funded the $25,000 “Knights’ Tower” with many fish
fries held over the course of 10 years. |
