Family benefit

FISHERS — Knights of Columbus Council 6923 will serve a free hot dog lunch from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. Saturday, July 31, at the Fishers Do-It Center, 11811 Lakeside Dr., to benefit the family of Delaney La Forest, of Holy Spirit Parish in Fishers. Donations will be accepted to help with the costs of Delaney’s battle with cancer. The choir of Holy Spirit Parish is also supporting the effort and lunch. Feast day celebration

FISHERS — St. John Vianney Parish will hold its fifth annual St. John Vianney Feast Day celebration on Sunday, Aug. 1. This year’s celebration will be the first held on the church grounds at 15176 Blessed Mother Boulevard. The celebration will begin with Mass at 10:30 a.m., followed by adoration in the chapel at 11:45 a.m. A festival also will begin at 11:45 a.m. on the parish grounds, with activities and games for all ages, including food, refreshments, bingo, booths, a cake walk and 50/50 cash raffle. Benediction and reposition of the Blessed Sacrament will begin at 3 p.m. The festival will close at 3:15 p.m. On Monday, Aug. 2, the parish’s fifth annual golf outing will be held at Plum Creek Golf Club. Novena in honor of St. Clare

KOKOMO — The Poor Clare Nuns will host their annual novena in honor of St. Clare at 7:30 p.m. daily from Monday, Aug. 2, through Tuesday, Aug. 10, in the monastery chapel. All are welcome to attend and experience the power of prayer and the intercession of St. Clare. Prayer intentions also may be sent to the Monastery of the Poor Clares, 1175 N. 300 W., Kokomo, IN 46901-1779. Each evening will include novena prayers and a homily by a different priest or deacon, followed by Benediction of the Blessed Sacrament. The final evening, Aug. 10, also will include veneration of a relic of St. Clare. A festive Mass will be celebrated at 6:30 a.m. Wednesday, Aug. 11, on the solemnity of St. Clare. All are invited to attend.

 


"New Moms Tea"

LAFAYETTE — The Kathryn Weil Center for Education and the Spirit of Women will continue to offer “New Moms Tea” opportunities for new and expecting mothers in the area. Programs will be offered at 1:30 p.m. Tuesdays, Aug. 3 and 10, at the center, 415 N. 26th St. Topics will include: Aug. 3, “Identifying Illness in the Newborn and When to Call Your Doctor,” and Aug. 10, “Pretty as a Picture: Preserving Memories with Photos.” The sessions are free, but registration is required. Holy hour for America

LAFAYETTE — All are invited to gather for a holy hour for America on the first Wednesday of each month in the chapel at St. Elizabeth Central Medical Center. The next holy hour will begin at 7 p.m. Wednesday, Aug. 4. Sponsored by the Legion of Mary Immaculate Heart of Mary Curia of Lafayette, the holy hour will be conducted by hospital chaplain Father Paul Graf. The evening will include Benediction, recitation of the rosary, a Communion service and time for silent prayer.

 


At John XXIII Retreat Center

HARTFORD CITY — Upcoming at John XXIII Retreat Center: • “Bicycle Retreat,” from 6:30 p.m. Thursday, Aug. 5, to 7 p.m. Friday, Aug. 6. Participants will gather on Thursday evening and bicycle on Friday. This time to reconnect with nature and with others in community will include time on Friday evening to reflect on the retreat experiences. "Taste of Haiti"

LAFAYETTE — The second annual “Taste of Haiti” will begin at 6 p.m. Saturday, Aug. 7, in Bishops Memorial Hall at the Cathedral of St. Mary of the Immaculate Conception, 1212 South St. The evening will feature a variety of traditional Haitian foods, as well as music and art. Cost is $20 per person. Advance ticket purchase is required and space is limited. Proceeds from the event will benefit the parish’s Haiti mission. Chicken dinner

GOODLAND — Sts. Peter and Paul Parish will hold a chicken dinner from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. Sunday, Aug. 8. Cost is $7 for adults and $4 for children under age 12. Meals will include dessert. The dining area is air-conditioned. Carry-outs also will be available. All are welcome to attend.

The retreat will offer opportunities to help people cope with cancer through self-expression, creativity and prayer. The retreat is free for cancer patients. Schoenstatt celebration

DELPHI — All are invited to attend the annual Schoenstatt rosary and Mass at the Wayside Shrine on Friday, Aug. 27.
