"Get Smarter, Get Stronger"

LAFAYETTE — The Kathryn Weil Center for Education and the Spirit of Women will present “Get Smarter, Get Stronger” at 6:30 p.m. Friday, May 9, at the center, 415 N. 26th St. The evening will include several presentations and free demonstrations, including a presentation by Dr. Shadi Resheidat on “Building Your Brain Power at Any Age,” various activities offered by the Tippecanoe County Public Library and book clubs, and a presentation by Julie Rasner, a certified yoga teacher, on “Strength, Balance and Flexibility: A Recipe for Staying Strong Regardless of Your Age.” The event is free, but registration is required. In appreciation of nurses

LAFAYETTE — In appreciation of the commitment and dedication of all nurses in the Greater Lafayette area, St Elizabeth Regional Health and the Kathryn Weil Center for Education will offer a community event to celebrate national nurses’ week. Faith Roberts, parish nurse program coordinator for Carle Foundation Hospital in Urbana, Ill., will present “It’s in Every One of Us” from 7 p.m. to 8:15 p.m. on Friday, May 9, at the Kathryn Weil Center for Education, 415 N. 26th St. The event is open to all nurses and student nurses from the community. Directed retreat

HARTFORD CITY — John XXIII Retreat Center will offer the opportunity for a directed retreat from 7:30 p.m. Sunday, May 11, through 1 p.m. Friday, May 16. Participants may choose from three or more days at a cost of $70 per day. Spiritual guidance will be available from Sister Joetta Huelsmann, PHJC, or Father Al Naseman, CPPS. Sports physicals

LAFAYETTE — The athletic department at Central Catholic Junior-Senior High School will hold sports physicals nights from 6:30 p.m. to 8 p.m. on Tuesday, May 13, and Wednesday, May 14. Cost is $20. "Clear Out the Clutter"

LAFAYETTE — Learn how to de-clutter, organize and create a more functional, efficient and relaxed home or work environment at a free community program from 6:30 p.m. to 7:30 p.m. on Wednesday, May 14, at the Kathryn Weil Center for Education, 415 N. 26th St. The program, “Clear Out the Clutter,” is free, but registration is required. International Festival

KOKOMO — Middle-school students of Sts. Joan of Arc and Patrick School will host an International Festival from 10 a.m. to 7 p.m. Thursday, May 15, at the school’s south campus, 3155 South County Road 200 West (Dixon Road). The festival will offer a showcase of student work related to specific countries. Students will share information about the customs, culture, economy, history and people from countries around the world, including costumes and food samples. All are welcome to attend.

 


On Franciscan spirituality

CARMEL — St. Elizabeth Ann Seton Parish will continue its series of talks on spiritual disciplines of the Church with a presentation on Franciscan spirituality at 7 p.m. Thursday, May 15, in the Upper Room at the church. Presenter will be Sister Olga Wittekind, OSF, a Franciscan sister from Oldenburg, Ind., a psychologist and a teacher at Marian College for 28 years. Motorcycle blessing

DEMOTTE — The Indiana Chapter of the North American 40+ Touring Riders will host its annual motorcycle blessing at 1 p.m. CDT Saturday, May 17, at St. Cecilia Church. The blessing will be held rain or shine. All makes of motorcycles are welcome. A lunch/ride will be held after the blessing, at participants’ expense. For more information, call 219-987-3688.

 


Citywide ultreya

WESTFIELD — St. Maria Goretti Parish will sponsor a citywide ultreya (gathering of the Cursillo community) at 7 p.m. Saturday, May 17. All central Indiana Cursillistas and friends are invited to gather for Mass and join in a pitch-in dinner before the ultreya. Mass will begin at 4:30 p.m., followed by dinner. Those attending the dinner are asked to bring the following: last names ending in A-E, pop and snacks; last names ending in F-J, appetizers; last names ending in K-R, salads; and last names ending in S-Z, desserts. Frassati dinner/speaker

CARMEL — The Frassati Society of Young Adult Catholics will host an evening in its “Dinner and a Speaker” series with “Yes! A Witness Shared by Father Christopher Weldon” on Saturday, May 17, at Our Lady of Mt. Carmel Parish. Ordained in 2005, Father Weldon will share his faith journey, witnessing to the power of God’s love in his conversion and vocation. Catholic Singles Outreach

Members of Catholic Singles Outreach are invited to a Mass at 11:30 a.m. on Sunday, May 18, at St. Luke Church in Indianapolis, followed by an outing to the Broad Ripple Art Fair. Catholic Singles Outreach is a group of Catholic singles from parishes in the Carmel Deanery and northern Indianapolis area. The group is sponsored by St. Louis de Montfort Parish in Fishers. LAFAYETTE — Central Catholic Junior-Senior High School will offer several summer camps in June and July, including: girls basketball, June 2-6, $50 per camper (family discount available); boys basketball, June 9-13, $50 per camper (family discount available); softball, June 9-13, $40 per camper; baseball, June 16-20, $50 per camper (family discount available); volleyball, June 16-20, $45 per camper (family discount available); boys and girls soccer, June 23-27, $40 per camper; wrestling, July 7-11, $40 per camper; football, July 14-18, $50 per camper, and July 21-24, $40 per camper (family discount available both weeks).
