Lenten fish fries

OXFORD — St. Patrick Parish will sponsor an all-you-care-to-eat fish fry from 5 p.m. to 7:30 p.m. Friday, March 12, in the parish hall. Cost is $8 for adults, $5 for children ages 6 to 12 and free for children under age 6. Carry-outs will be available. All are welcome to attend.

REYNOLDS — St. Joseph Parish will hold a Lenten fish fry from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m. Friday, March 12, in the parish’s Muller Hall. Cost is $8 for adults and $4 for children ages 6 and younger. Carry-outs will be available. All are welcome to attend.

WINCHESTER — St. Joseph Parish will hold its annual Lenten fish fry from 4 p.m. to 7:30 p.m. Friday, March 12. The menu will include all-you-care-to-eat fish prepared by Dan’s Fish Service of Huntington, coleslaw, baked beans, applesauce, potato chips, dessert and beverage. Cost is $8 for adults, $5 for children ages 6 to 12 and free for children age 5 and younger. All are welcome to attend.

 


"Battle of the Saints"

LAFAYETTE — The fifth annual “Battle of the Saints” basketball game featuring the fathers of fourth-, fifth- and sixth-graders at St. Boniface and St. Lawrence schools will be played at 7:30 p.m. Friday, March 12, in McHale Gym at Central Catholic Junior-Senior High School. Admission at the door will be $4 for adults, $2 for students or $10 for a family. Advance tickets may be purchased in all school offices before 10 a.m. March 10 at a cost of $3 for adults, $2 for students or $8 for a family. Those paying in advance will be entered in a raffle to win pizza for a year. A raffle also will be held for an Xbox 360; raffle tickets may be purchased in the school offices or at the game. All proceeds will benefit the Lafayette Catholic School System’s Blue Knight Auction.

 


Chicken and noodle dinner

LAFAYETTE — St. Ann Parish will hold a chicken and noodle dinner from 4:30 p.m. to 6:30 p.m. Saturday, March 13, in the parish’s Memorial Center, 601 Wabash Ave. The menu will include chicken and noodles, mashed potatoes, green beans, corn, cranberry gelatin salad, dinner roll, dessert and beverage. Cost is $7 for adults, $4 for students in kindergarten through 12th grade and free for children under age 5. All are welcome to attend.

 


Frassati Society

CARMEL — The Frassati Society invites young men and women ages 18 to 35 to join the Carmel Deanery group for a weekly series during March on “Sexuality.” The group meets at 7 p.m. each Tuesday at the John Paul II Center across from Our Lady of Mt. Carmel Church, 14598 Oakridge Road. Topics for the upcoming series will include homosexuality, pornography and living the “theology of the body.” The group also will meet for an evening of “broomball” beginning at 6 p.m. Saturday, March 13, at Pan Am Plaza, 201 S. Secular Franciscan information meeting

LAFAYETTE — All are invited to attend a Secular Franciscan information meeting at 2 p.m. Sunday, March 14, at St. Boniface Parish’s St. Michael Center, 816 North St. Those attending will learn about the Secular Franciscan life.

 


Faithful City Prayer Group

LAFAYETTE — The Faithful City Prayer Group, a charismatic prayer group, will meet at 7 p.m. Monday, March 15, in the St. Philomena Center across from St. Boniface School. The group meets in a Catholic environment to praise God, share his Word and exercise the gifts of the Holy Spirit. A short teaching on healing will be given during the March 15 meeting. Homeschooling meeting

LAFAYETTE — Heart of Mary Educators (HOME) homeschooling group will meet at 7 p.m. Tuesday, March 16, in the west lounge of the St. Elizabeth School of Nursing. A social half-hour will begin at 6:30 p.m. Infants are welcome.

 


Frassati events

CARMEL — The Frassati Society of Young Adult Catholics will welcome guest speaker Frank Bienas for a presentation about the Eucharist at 7 p.m. Tuesday, March 16, at Our Lady of Mt. Carmel Parish’s John Paul II Youth Center, 14598 Oak Ridge Road. The society also will meet from 11 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. Saturday, March 20, to help cook and serve lunch to those in need at the Cathedral Soup Kitchen, 1347 N. Meridian St., Indianapolis. St. Patrick's Day party/raffle

ANDERSON — Knights of Columbus Council 563 will hold its annual St. Patrick’s Day party and raffle on Wednesday, March 17, at the council hall, 1225 Main St. The council will be serving Irish stew and black bread from 11 a.m. to 7 p.m. Cost is $7 for adults and $3 for children. Holy hour

LAFAYETTE — A Schoenstatt Holy Hour is held on the third Thursday of each month in the chapel at St. Elizabeth Central medical center. The next holy hour will be held at 7 p.m. March 18. The evening will include recitation of the rosary and Benediction. All are welcome to attend.

 


NFP class/Lafayette

LAFAYETTE — A short course on the Sympto-Thermal Method of Natural Family Planning will begin at 7 p.m. Friday, March 19, at St. Lawrence Parish. NFP is a safe, effective and morally acceptable method for achieving or postponing pregnancy. SEED presentation

MUNCIE — Father Christopher Shocklee, associate pastor of the Cathedral of St. Mary of the Immaculate Conception and St. Lawrence, Lafayette, will be the guest speaker at the next meeting of SEED (Seeking Evangelization through Eucharistic Devotion) at 7 p.m. Thursday, March 25, at St. Mary Church in Muncie. NFP class/Carmel

CARMEL — A series of Natural Family Planning classes will begin at 7 p.m. Friday, March 26, in the St. Thomas Aquinas Room at Our Lady of Mt. Carmel Church. The series of three classes, scheduled a month apart, will explain the Sympto-Thermal Method, which records simple observations of the fertility cycle to plan or postpone pregnancies. Scout retreat

WESTFIELD — The Diocesan Catholic Committee on Scouting will host “A Close Encounter with God” Scout retreat from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. Saturday, March 27, at St. Maria Goretti Parish. The retreat is for Daisies through Junior Girl Scouts and Tiger Cubs through Webelos. Those attending will be working on the Luminous Mysteries Rosary Patch. The day will include games, a craft, stories and Mass. Registration will begin at 8:30 a.m. in Msgr. Duncan Hall. Cost is $5 per Scout; admission is free for adults. Participants are asked to bring a sack lunch; drinks for lunch and supplies for the day will be provided.
