Preschool registration

LAFAYETTE — St. Mary Cathedral Preschool will begin registration for the 2012-2013 school year on Monday, Jan. 30. Registration forms are available in the school office at 1200 South St. or online at www.lcss.org. A 3-/4-year-old program (age by Aug. 1) is available on Tuesdays and Thursdays from 8:45 a.m. to 11:15 a.m. or 12:15 p.m. to 2:45 p.m. Cost is $75 per month. A pre-kindergarten program for 4-/5-year-olds (age by Aug. 1) is available on Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays from 8:45 a.m. to 11:15 a.m. or 12:15 p.m. to 2:45 p.m. Cost is $95 per month. John XXIII Retreat Center

HARTFORD CITY — Upcoming retreats and events at John XXIII Retreat Center include:

• “Writing for the Soul,” from 2:30 p.m. to 5:30 p.m. Sunday, Feb. 5. Participants will gather for creative writing and sharing. A period of centering prayer will follow from 5:30 p.m. to 6 p.m. Cost for “Writing for the Soul” is $5 per person. Registration is requested by Feb. 3.

Zumba classes

LAFAYETTE — The Kathryn Weil Center for Education will host Zumba classes beginning Tuesday, Feb. 7. Cost is $4 per class or $30 for the month. The Feb. 7 and Feb. 10 classes are introductory and free to all participants. Classes will run from 6:30 p.m. to 7:30 p.m. on the following dates: Tuesday, Feb. 7; Friday, Feb. 10; Tuesday, Feb. 14; Friday, Feb. 17; Tuesday, Feb. 21; Friday, Feb. 24; Tuesday, Feb. 28, and Monday, March 1. Classes are suitable for all levels of physical activity, including postpartum mothers. They also will be offered in March and April. Registration is not required, but is preferred. John XXIII Retreat Center

HARTFORD CITY — Upcoming retreats and events at John XXIII Retreat Center include:

• “Opening the Windows to Wisdom: A Retreat with Pope John XXIII,” from 9:15 a.m. to 2:15 p.m. Wednesday, Feb. 8. In this monthly series celebrating 50 years since the start of the Second Vatican Council, participants will learn more about the spirit and values of Pope John XXIII. Cost is $21 per person. Ladies Candlelight Dinner

WESTFIELD — St. Maria Goretti’s 16th annual Ladies Candlelight Dinner will be held Thursday evening, Feb. 9, at the Ritz Charles in Carmel. All women in the Diocese of Lafayette-in-Indiana are invited to attend. Social hour will begin at 6 p.m., followed by dinner, Catholic comedian Judy McDonald and a raffle. John XXIII Retreat Center

Parish mission

FISHERS — St. Louis de Montfort Church, 11441 Hague Road, will hold a parish mission on Feb. 13-15 with Father Dennis Corrado. The mission will feature a series of presentations on “Getting Our Catholic Church Back: The Spiritual and Corporal Works of Mercy.” A topic will be presented each evening at 7 p.m.; an abbreviated version of the same topic will be offered each morning after the 8 a.m. Mass. "Heart-smart Dining"

LAFAYETTE — As part of Heart Month activities, Franciscan St. Elizabeth Health invites all to attend an evening to “Transition Your Kitchen into Heart-smart Dining.” Presenters will be executive chef Chris Watson and registered dietitian Anna Busenburg. Topics will include foods that score high when it comes to heart health and culinary techniques to make foods flavorful while keeping their health benefits. The presentation will begin at 6:30 p.m. Wednesday, Feb. 15, in the Heartland Cafe at Franciscan St. Elizabeth Health - Lafayette East, 1701 S. Creasy Lane. Pro-life benefit concert

Tony Avellana, a singer, songwriter and musician from St. Maria Goretti Parish in Westfield, will perform a concert in February to benefit the Hearts for Life pro-life organization. The concert will be held from 7 p.m. to 9 p.m. Feb. 16 at Our Lady of the Greenwood Church, 335 S. Meridian St., Greenwood. A free-will offering will be taken. 15th anniversary Mass

LAFAYETTE — A Mass will be celebrated at 7 p.m. Thursday, Feb. 16, in the chapel at Franciscan St. Elizabeth Health - Lafayette Central to mark the 15th anniversary of perpetual adoration there. A reception will follow in the hospital cafeteria. All are welcome.

 


"What Would Mary Do?"

LAFAYETTE — All women are invited to attend “Boy, Oh, Boy,” the next evening sponsored by “What Would Mary Do?,” a ministry of the Lafayette Catholic schools, at 7 p.m. Thursday, Feb. 16, in Bishops Memorial Hall at the Cathedral of St. Mary of the Immaculate Conception. "Mariology"

WESTFIELD — “Mariology,” a F.I.R.E. intellectual formation course sponsored by the diocesan Pastoral Office for Catechesis, will be held from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. Saturday, Feb. 25, at St. Maria Goretti Church. Participants in the workshop will learn more about the Church’s teaching on Mary, discuss the history of devotion to Mary and explore the Blessed Mother’s place in sacred Scripture and Tradition. All adults are welcome to attend. Cost of $20 per person includes lunch. Registration deadline is Feb. 10. Parish Mission

WEST LAFAYETTE — Blessed Sacrament Parish will hold a parish mission beginning Sunday evening, Feb. 26, and concluding Tuesday evening, Feb. 28. The mission will be held from 7 p.m. to 8:30 p.m. each day. The theme for the mission will be “Catholicism in the New Millennium: Reflecting and Dreaming.” Topics will include the people of God, liturgy/sacraments, science/technology and education/political life. This year’s mission will be conducted by Father Robert Meyer and Father Linh Hoang. All are welcome to attend. Child care will be provided each evening.

 


Women's Day of Reflection

NOBLESVILLE — Our Lady of Grace Parish will host the sixth annual Women’s Day of Reflection from 8:15 a.m. to 3 p.m. Saturday, March 3. The theme for this year’s event is “Breathe in the Spirit of Service.” The day will include a keynote address by Anne Walls on “Creating a Full and Meaningful Life, God’s Way,” two workshops, breakfast and lunch. Adult Scouter Awards

Nominations are now being accepted by the Diocesan Catholic Committee on Scouting for Girl Scout and Boy Scout Adult Scouter Awards. The awards are presented to adults who have been working with youth on their Scout religious awards for two or more years.
